The course for "Offshore Installation Manager, Barge Supervisor, & Ballast Control Operator" is being offered as an alternative to the Coast Guard examination. It covers the same material that the Coast Guard considers essential for their examinations, as stated in 46 CFR Part 11.920. In order to obtain a license as an Offshore Installation Manager, Barge Supervisor, or Ballast Control Operator, applicants must successfully complete USCG-approved courses on Stability, Fire Fighting, Water Survival, and Well Control.
While the course does not provide as in-depth coverage as a comprehensive course, it serves as a refresher on the fundamental elements and knowledge that candidates have already learned in previous courses. Additional subjects such as Rules of the Road, Weather, H2S, Radiophone, etc. are also covered to provide candidates with a basic understanding of these topics, with a focus on areas crucial to the safety of the rig and its crew.
The objective of this course is for candidates, after gaining the required sea service and completing all necessary USCG-approved courses, to be able to take responsibility for the safety of a Mobile Offshore Drilling or Production Unit and its crew, as prescribed by their respective license and position. They will also be knowledgeable about the Coast Guard regulations regarding safety and protection of the marine environment, and capable of taking practical measures to fulfill those obligations.
